My Life is in Your Hands…Beth Farley

~ۓ

I remember it like it was yesterday. My daughter was up on stage at our church revival singing her heart out. She was singing, “My Life is in Your Hands” by Kathy Tricolli. People were raising their hands, swaying to the music and crying in the Spirit.
Fast forward fourteen years, while putting away laundry I heard the song playing on the radio downstairs. I stopped in my tracks and began to sob.

Life can be so good;
Life can be so hard

The lyrics to that song touch my heart every time I hear them. Life CAN be so good at times and life CAN be so hard at other times. It’s easy to navigate around our lives when things appear to be in order. But, what do we do with those unavoidable times when we feel as though we’re in the presence of evil or in a catastrophe?

Where is life after 9/11, Katrina, devastating tornadoes, high school shootings, cancer and divorce? What is the point of life when we are in the vortex of black depression? Where do we start to find the meaning?

We begin by cracking open our perhaps dusty ole Bible (if that’s the case) or that shiny new Bible and begin to digest the Psalms. We take that first step into a church. We listen to music like My Life is in Your Hands. We sob and let it go. We need to give our worn down rusty ole gears to God.

We can only start where we are at. Christians, we need to stick together in helping each other through the chaos of life. If we can rake beaches after oil spills or rebuild towns after hurricanes and tornadoes, then by golly, we should be able to help our neighbors or even strangers in need.

Look around you today. Is there someone who needs your smile or your touch?
Is there someone who you think may be down? Look at the lyrics below:

Life can be so good
Life can be so hard
Never knowing what each day
Will bring to where you are
Sometimes I forget
And sometimes I can’t see
That whatever comes my way
You’ll be with me

My life is in your hands
My heart is in your keeping
I’m never without hope
Not when my future is with you

My life is in your hands
And though I may not see clearly
I will lift my voice and sing
Cause your love does amazing things
Lord, I know, my life is in your hands

Nothing is for sure
Nothing is for keeps
All I know is that your love
Will live eternally
So I will find my rest,
And I will find my peace
Knowing that you’ll meet my every need

My life is in your hands
My heart is in your keeping
I’m never without hope
Not when my future is with you

My life is in your hands
And though I may not see clearly
I will lift my voice and sing
Cause your love does amazing things
Lord, I know, my life is in your hands

When I’m at my weakest Lord
You carry me
Then I become my strongest Lord
In your hands

My life is in your hands
And though I may not see clearly
I will lift my voice and sing
Cause your love does amazing things
Lord, I know, my life is in your hands
I trust you Lord
My life is in your hand
