Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. 4 Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
1 Peter 3:3-4 NIV
Can we avoid getting our heart-broken? It’s such an awful feeling when you’ve put yourself out there only to find that where you put your heart was not where it was supposed to be. How can we really know if we’re in the right place without getting hurt? Does this mean that God wasn’t in it? No, God’s in everything and I’m finding every sadness I experience is just another growing pain; growing closer to God.
I’ve have had my fair share of hurts. I am not complaining. I’m just saying at the age of 53, I’ve had some big heart aches. Some of which I never felt I deserved and others that were a direct result of sin.
The word petite has been ruminating in my mind. Not too long ago, I was crushed by a few comments about my size. It’s actually not the first time; so why I allowed it to hurt me, I don’t know? Throughout my life I’ve been told I’m overweight but that I have a beautiful face, sparkling eyes, great voice and super sense of humor. So if that’s the case, why have I found it so hard to feel pretty? Does pretty only come in petite packages?
I was once asked if I have big bones or what were my weight goals. Comments like that hurt any overweight woman and possibly man and they not only hurt, they make you feel as if you’re not good enough. So how can we avoid getting our heart-broken over such hurtful words?
First of all I am good enough and so are you. We are all special in God’s eyes. I know my heart. I would encourage anyone and help anyone I could. Know that you are precious; no matter what size you are, color you are, or intelligence level you are.
Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
God created us to be with the right people in our lives. God created us to be around those who are going to encourage us, engage with us and support us in our efforts to serve Him. Don’t be around anyone who makes you feel less than you are.
1Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
The reactions, feelings, likes or dislikes of others don’t have to control our behaviors, feelings, and direction. We can rise above it and be reminded as 1 Peter 3:3-4 reminds us: the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit is of great worth to God.
Today, try not to worry about other what other people’s opinions of you are or events outside of your control. All you need to do is walk with Jesus and feel loved just the way you are.
